The incident in question happened in the fifth ball of the 7th over of the Pakistani innings. Shoriful Islam bowling from over the wicket saw the ball hold its line as Shan Masood went for a cut.

Bangladeshi players were quick to go up in appeal as the umpire gave it not out on the field. The visiting side though decided to use the DRS as there was a clear spike when the ball went closer to the bat. The third umpire deemed the ball had hit the bat and asked the on-field umpire to change the decision.

Shan Masood had no other choice but to head back to the hut for just 6 runs from 11 balls. It was clearly seen that there was a spike but the ball seemed to have hit the pads rather than the bat. It was a controversial moment in the game as the Pakistani side were left in early trouble.

Saim Ayub and Saud Shakeel steady ship after early losses

At one stage, Pakistan were placed at 16 for 3 inside 9 overs. Abdullah Shafique was out early for two, while Babar Azam was out for a 2nd ball duck. This was the first time that the former Pakistani captain was out for a duck while playing a Test match at home.

From there the Pakistani batting pair of Saim Ayub and Saud Shakeel decided to take the attack to the opposition. When the play was halted for the tea break Pakistan had raced to 82/3 from just 21 overs. The two batters had forged a quick stand and were scoring six runs per over.

Saim Ayub was batting on 47 runs from just 71 balls with 7 hits to the fence and a six. Saud Shakeel on the other hand had scored 28 runs from 36 balls with 4 boundaries as the 4th wicket stand of 66 came off 76 balls.
