Sanju Samson wishes Rohit Sharma on his birthday Photograph: (X)
Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma turned 38 on Wednesday as the entire cricketing fraternity sent him their wishes. Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) Sanju Samson got involved in a hilarious moment with Rohit Sharma, where he seemed confused about the latter’s birthday. Rajasthan Royals posted a short video on their social media handle, where they captioned it by saying, “Never change, Sharma ji”

In the video, Samson could be seen walking up to Rohit and asking, “Is your birthday tomorrow?”. Rohit was quick to retort, “No, it was yesterday”. The former Mumbai Indians (MI) were quick to say, “It’s today”. Samson was quick to wish Rohit on his special day and gave a big hug to the veteran batter.
Many of the Rajasthan Royals’ players also came forward to wish Rohit, who was seen getting ready for practice. Mumbai Indians will take on Rajasthan Royals in Match number 50 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Thursday night. This is the first meeting between the two sides this season, and RR have beaten MI in each of their previous two games.
30-year-old Sanju Samson hasn’t played for RR since the game against Delhi Capitals, where he hurt himself while batting. Rajasthan Royals’ coach Rahul Dravid, during his interaction on Star Sports Press Room, was asked by a news agency from PTI to give an update on Samson’s fitness.
Dravid replied, “Sanju’s recovery is good, but we are monitoring it daily. Every day, we receive reports from the medical team on his availability. In this process, we want to proceed gradually and are prioritising his health. Side strain injuries can sometimes be tricky. Sanju is receiving excellent care, and we are monitoring his condition daily. We are trying to avoid any rush to prevent any impact on his long-term health.”
Speaking about Rohit Sharma, the former MI skipper began the season slowly before finding his stride. With knocks of 76 not out vs Chennai Super Kings and 70 against Sunrisers Hyderabad, the 38-year-old signalled his return to form with the bat. In the last game, Rohit scored 12 runs, which included two sixes, before falling to Mayank Yadav. MI fans will hope that their ‘Hitman’ can score runs and give them a belated birthday present with a win.
