29-year-old Sanju Samson came back to form as he scored a 22-ball fifty against Bangladesh in Hyderabad on Saturday. The half-century from 22 balls was also the fastest by an Indian batter against Bangladesh in T20I cricket. Samson was coming into the game on the back of low scores in the first two games.

Rishad Hossain was given the ball in the 7th over of the innings by Najmul Shanto. Samson greeted Hossain with a lofted shot over extra cover for 4. This was followed by a pull for yet another four to reach 45. The fifty came with a six over the long-off region for another six.

As soon as he reached his fifty, Samson could be seen pumping his fists in delight. It is a timely knock from the under-fire star after scoring just 39 runs in the previous two matches. With questions being asked about his place on the side, Samson delivered the most when his team needed it.

India lost Abhishek Sharma early for 4 when he holed out to Mahedi Hasan off Tanzim Sakib. At that stage, the score read 23/1 as skipper Suryakumar Yadav came out to bat. Once SKY and Samson joined forces there was no stopping the duo as they made sure that India kept scoring runs at a good pace.

The fifty came in just 4.2 overs as Taskin Ahmed’s ball reached the fence for four leg-byes. 19 runs were scored in the 6th over as India reached 82/1 with Suryakumar Yadav hitting the pacer for a huge six over the mid-wicket fence. Bangladeshi bowlers looked shell-shocked as India seemed to be in the mood for a huge score on the board.

At the end of 7 overs, India were placed at 98/1 as Rishad Hossain conceded 16 runs. Runs didn’t stop flowing as India got to 100 runs in just 7.1 overs when Yadav hit Mustafizur Rahman for four runs. At the time of writing 8.3 overs were bowled with India’s score reading 119/1. Samson was batting on 60 with skipper Suryakumar Yadav on 47.
