Mumbai Indians (MI) wicketkeeper Ryan Rickelton stole the show with his swift glovework in the IPL 2025 game against Delhi Capitals (DC). Will Jacks was introduced into the attack to bowl the fifth over as the pitch was taking plenty of turn. The English all-rounder began by beating Abhishek Porel with his very first ball.
On the next ball, Porel was beaten once again as the ball went away from his bat. Rickelton showed tremendous presence of mind and whipped off the bails. Mumbai Indians players appealed for stumping and the umpire sent it upstairs for a check. It was seen that the batter’s foot was partially in the air when the bails were dislodged.
The third umpire decided to give the ball in favour of the bowling side as Porel was out for six runs. Rickelton was flanked by the rest of his MI teammates for his smart work behind the stumps. It was also an inspired bowling change from Hardik Pandya, as Will Jacks’ natural ability to spin the ball away from the left-handed batter worked in his favor.
Delhi Capitals commit hara-kiri with the bat
Having been asked to chase 181 runs to win, DC lost both their openers very early in the game. Faf du Plessis unsuccessfully tried to play a big shot off Deepak Chahar and was caught by Mitchell Santner for six runs. KL Rahul then played an oout-of-haracter shot off KL Rahul to be caught by Rickelton for 11 runs.
Vipraj Nigam was sent up the order and the young brought life back into the game. Will Jacks’ no-ball after the wicket of Porel gave DC the free hit. Nigam didn’t let the chance go and hit it for a flat six. This was followed by two successive fours as 16 runs were scored from Jacks’ over.
Mitchell Santner was welcomed to the bowling crease by Nigam with a boundary. It was Santner who had the last laugh when he took an easy return catch to dismiss Nigam for 20 runs. Jasprit Bumrah then trapped Tristan Stubbs LBW for two as DC slid to 65 for five in the 10th over.
