Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper was dismissed for just one run in the Indian Premier League (IPL) game against Punjab Kings. The five-time IPL winner were set a massive target of 220-runs to win their second game of the season. In the second ball of the eighth over, Lockie Ferugson hurried the batter for pace.
Gaikwad got an edge with his bat and Shashank Singh hung onto a sharp catch to give PKBKS their second wicket of the day. Ferguson was overjoyed with the wicket as he rushed towards the fielder to celebrate the wicket. Glenn Maxwell had given PBKS their first wicket when he had Rachin Ravindra stumped by Prabhsimran Singh for 38 runs from 23 balls.
Opting to bat first, Punjab posted 219 runs on the board from their 20 overs. Priyansh Arya scored 103 off just 42 balls with seven boundaries and nine sixes. Arya got to his ton off just 39 balls which was the fastest ever against CSK in IPL history. It was also the second fastest by an Indian batter after Yusuf Pathan’s 37-ball ton vs Mumbai Indians in 2010.
Devon Conway keeps CSK in the hunt
Needing 220 runs to win, CSK scored nine runs off the first over with Rachin Ravindra hitting Arshdeep Singh for two fours. The left-arm seamer was hit for two more fours in his second over to concede a total of 18 runs from his first two overs. Yash Thakur was called upon to bowl the fourth over and the Vidarbha pacer went for 17 runs in the over.
Devon Conway hit Thakur’s first ball for a boundary and Ravindra then hit the pacer for three successive fours. By the end of the powerplay overs, CSK had reached 59 for no loss. Kiwi batter Devon Conway kept Chennai in the hunt as he scored his first fifty of the season in 36 balls.
Centurion Priyansh Arya spoke to the broadcasters at the mid-innings break and said “I’m not expressive but getting a very good feeling from within. In the last game, Shreyas Iyer talked about backing your instincts, he suggested me to play the way I want to. I was thinking that if I get the first ball in my slot, I will definitely hit it for a six. I want to express myself as much as I can and not restrict myself.”
