The West Indies took on Bangladesh in the first of three T20I matches on Monday in St. Kitts. Rovman Powell won the toss and chose to bowl first and saw his bowlers restrict the visitors to 147/6 from their 20 overs. The biggest moment of the game was when Powell came up with a terrific catch that reminded fans of the effort by Surya Kumar Yadav in the T20 World Cup finals.

Jaker Ali was batting on 27 when he tried to hit Romario Shepherd for a six. Rovman Powell saw the ball and took the catch near the boundary ropes. Sensing he was losing his balance, Powell threw the ball in the air and came back in to complete the catch. The presence of mind shown by the West Indian skipper meant that Jaker Ali had to go back to the hut. 

Put into bat first, Bangladesh opener with Tanzid Hasan and Soumya Sarkar. The pair added 15 runs for the 1st wicket in 2.3 overs before Akeal Hosein struck twice in two balls. The left-arm spinner first removed Hasan for just six runs from 11 balls with 1 four. On the very next ball, Litton Das was out for a golden duck as Hosein took a simple return catch. 

Soumya Sarkar’s 43 helps Bangladesh post decent total on the board

Afif Hossain's stint at the crease ended after having scored just 8 runs. Roston Chase dismissed Hossain caught by Akeal Hosein. The batter scored his 8 runs from 11 balls with 2 hits to the fence. Soumya Sarkar and Jaker Ali then added 57 runs for the 4th wicket to bring the visitors back into the contest. 

West Indian bowlers made runs hard to come by with tight bowling to the Bangladeshi batters. Obed McCoy broke the stand between Sarkar and Ali as he dismissed the Bangladeshi opener for 43. Sarkar’s knock came off 32 balls, and it contained 2 fours and 3 huge sixes. 

Mahedi Hasan then scored 26 off 24 balls with 2 fours and a six, but the momentum in the innings came from Shamim Hossain. The Bangladeshi star scored 27 runs from just 13 balls with 1 four and 3 sixes. The best bowler for West Indies was Akeal Hosein with 2/13 from 4 overs. Obed McCoy also ended up with 2 wickets, while Roston Chase and Romario Shepherd picked a wicket each.
