Troubles just don’t seem to end for former Bangladeshi skipper Shakib Al Hasan. Just days after it was revealed that the England Cricket Board (ECB) had banned him from bowing, there’s more bad news. The 37-year-old has been banned from bowling in international cricket as well.
The news came out late on Sunday night after Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) sources confirmed the ban is global. This means that the former skipper will not be able to bowl during the Champions Trophy tournament should he be picked. It was reported that the on-field umpires found Shakib’s action dodgy during a county game this year.
BCB released a statement which read, “The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been informed that National Team all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been suspended from bowling in competitions under the jurisdiction of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).”
Troubles keep mounting for Shakib Al Hasan
The statement released by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) went on to read, “As a result, Shakib is also suspended from bowling in domestic cricket competitions outside Bangladesh and in international cricket. This suspension follows the outcome of an independent assessment conducted at an International Cricket Council (ICC) accredited testing centre in the United Kingdom.”
Shakib has to mandatorily undergo a check on his action if he wants to start bowling again. The former Bangladeshi skipper hasn’t played international cricket since September and was last seen during the Abu Dhabi T10 League.
BCB’s statement also read, “The BCB also understands that, as per clause 11.4 of the ICC regulations, Shakib may undergo further analysis at an ICC-accredited testing centre. Should the results of this analysis clear his action, Shakib will be permitted to bowl in international cricket. The BCB is aware that Shakib will soon appear for reassessment at an accredited testing centre in an effort to have his bowling action cleared.”
The 37-year-old has picked 246 wickets in the Test format with 19 fifers and 2 ten-wicket hauls. In the ODI format, Shakib has picked 317 wickets, making him the first ever Bangladeshi bowler to take 300 wickets in this format of the game. The 37-year-old has also picked 149 wickets in the T20I format with 2 fifers and an economy of 6.8 runs per over.
