Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was in the eye of the storm during Bangladesh’s first innings in Chennai. India’s skipper hadn’t taken a review despite repeated appeals from Mohammed Siraj. It was later revealed that India was wrong as the ball was hitting the stumps much to the shock of everyone.

There was almost a repeatation of the same during the opening day of the 2nd Test in Kanpur. Akash Deep’s ball hit Shadman Islam on his pads as the bowler went up for appeal. The right-arm pacer indicated to his skipper and said he wanted a review. Rohit, though wasn’t keen but Rishabh Pant joined in the conversation and convinced Rohit to take the DRS.

Once the replays came in, the ball was hitting all three stumps. The on-field umpire was asked to change his decision and give the batter out. As soon as the batter was given out there was genuine surprise on the faces of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Indian skipper achieves special feat in Kanpur

Rohit Sharma became the first Indian skipper since 2015 to win the toss and decide to bowl in a home Test match. The las time this happened was during the India vs South Africa game in Bengaluru. Virat Kohli had won the toss and bowled first as the game ended in a draw after four days were rained out with only 1st day being played.

The pitch at the Green Park stadium had a bit of grass as the teams came for the toss. With the overnight rains and the overcast conditions, the decision was made easier fotr the Indian skipper.

Bangladesh had earlier lost the wicket of Zakir Hasan for a duck off 24 balls. Yashasvi Jaiswal took a great catch to give India its 1st wicket of the day.  Akash Deep had bowled well to give the home team both wickets before lunch.

At the time of writing, the visiting side were placed at 61/2 after 21 overs. Former skipper Mominul Haque was batting on 10 off 36 balls. Keeping him company was current skipper Najmul Shanto on 22 off 30 balls with 5 fours.
