India and Bangladesh reached Kanpur for the 2nd Test which began on Friday. The toss was delayed by 30 minutes as the outfield was wet due to overnight rain. Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl first on an overcast morning at the Green Park Stadium.

India went in with the same team that had played the first Test in Chennai. It was expected that Kuldeep Yadav or Axar Patel might get a chance for the game. There were reports that one of the pacers could be rested for the game.

With the toss taking place at 10 AM, the start of play was pushed to 10:30 AM. The first session of play is between 10:30 to 12:30 PM. The post-lunch session starts at 13:10 PM to 15:10 PM. The final session of play is between 15:30 PM to 17:30 PM.

Speaking at the toss, Rohit Sharma said “We are going to bowl first. The pitch seems a bit soft, so we have to make early inroads and we want our three seamers to make use of it. We didn't start well with the bat in the first game, but we found a way to score and the bowlers did the job. I expect no difference here (fight from Bangladesh), we will be challenged but we have the experience to bounce back.”

Will this be Shakib’s final test match?

Bangladesh skipper Najmul Shanto said at the toss “Happy to bat first, we wanted to bat anyway. As a batter, if we get a start we have to score well. Hope our batters can score big today. Looks like a good wicket to bat on. New ball batting will be key though. Two changes. Nahid and Taskin aren't playing. Taijul and Khaled are in”

On Thursday, Shakib Al Hasan had announced his intention to retire from the Test format. The former Bangladeshi skipper had already called time on his T20I career but was willing to return if needed. This will be Shakib Al Hasan's 71st Test match and likely to be his last.

The former skipper also said that he wished his final game to be in Mirpur if he was given assurance about his safety. In case the answer is negative then the veteran star could call time on his career after the 2nd Test in Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.
