Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant battled the odds to help India reach 107/4 at tea time on Day one of the SCG Test match. The 27-year-old was struck on his body several times, but none was as nasty as the one he received at the hands of Mitchell Starc. The Australian pacer bowled a short ball that Pant tried to fend and was hit on his arm.
The batter was seen in visible discomfort as the Indian physio came out to conduct checks. There was a huge black patch that was seen as the batter took his helmet and was seen grimace in pain. Even Starc walked up to the batter to check and gave Pant a friendly tap on his shoulder.
A few overs later, Starc’s short ball hit the grill of Pant’s helmet, and the bowler yet again went to check. With the pitch assisting the pacers, there is a lot of seam movement and bounce on the pitch. At the time of the break, Pant was batting on 32 with Ravindra Jadeja on 11. The pair had added 31 runs for the 5th wicket in 111 balls after India were reduced to 76/4.
Virat Kohli fails to score yet again
Former India skipper Virat Kohli batted for 69 balls to score his 17 runs before he was out to Scott Boland. The 36-year-old was caught nicking behind the wicket for the seventh time in the ongoing series. Beau Webster took an amazing catch to send Kohli back to the dugout.
Ravindra Jadeja was dropped on zero when Steve Smith failed to hold onto a simple catch off Boland. The veteran Indian all-rounder put his head down and played with grit and determination to see out the session. Indian team management will hope both the batters can make use of the decent start to their innings and make it count.
Rishabh Pant smashed a huge six off Beau Webster to break the shackles as the ball soared high into the stands. Pant also hit three boundaries to keep the score ticking and taking the total past 100.
