The South African skipper was left in stunned silence as the visitors lost their first wicket.

Team India registers huge win in 1st ODI

It was a dream start for the Indian Women’s team as they defeated South Africa by 143 runs. Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and chose to bat first as India lost Shafali Varma early for just 7 runs.

At one stage the Indian team was struggling at 99/5 in the 22nd over. Hemlatha Dayalan (12), skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (10), Jemimah Rodriguez with 17 and Richa Ghosh (3) fell at regular intervals.

Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma added 81 runs for the 6th wicket before Sharma fell for 37. The star with the bat was Smriti Mandhana who scored 117 runs from 127 balls with 12 fours and a six.

Playing in front of her franchise cricket home fans, the classy left-handed batter did nothing wrong. Mandhana withstood the early pressure from the visiting bowlers and then cut loose once she found support from the other end.

Chasing 266 to win, Sune Luus with 33 was the top scorer for South Africa. The other batters to come up with decent contributions were Sinalo Jaffa with 27 not out and Mariazzane Kapp with 24.

For India, Asha Shobhana was the best bowler as she picked 4/21 from her 8.4 overs. Deepti Sharma picked 2/10 from her six overs while Renuka Singh Thakur, Pooja Vastrakar, and Radha Yadav picked a wicket each.
