During the toss of the 36th match between the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis threw in a sneaky smile as the camera zoomed in on the toss coin. Later, RCB won the toss and invited the hosts to bat first.
However, this toss coin incident is related to RCB's match against Mumbai Indians (. The match referee was accused of flipping the coming in MI's favour after a video went viral on social media. Even though nothing has been proven yet, that incident drew a lot of criticism against the MI team and the management for involving the referee.
Post that incident, another video went viral where du Plessis was seen talking to Pat Cummins during toss time where he was explaining about the same scenario. Since then, the cameraman has started focusing on the tossed coin after it reaches the ground and is checked by the referee.
'The batting is so strong that a general score or 60-70 isn't considered great during the batting PP...' - Skipper Faf du Plessis during the toss
Scoring 100 runs in power plays has become a trend now that all the teams want to follow. Hence, during the toss time, RCB captain Faf du Plessis also acknowledged the fact that now teams want to score more during powerplays and 60-70 runs which were a lot 2-3 years ago are seen as jokes these days.
"I'm a fan of batting first when it's really hot, but the temperature did drop after an hour or so yesterday, unlike in Mumbai or Chennai where it stays very hot. The batting is so strong that a general score of 60-70 isn't considered great during the batting PP," said du Plessis during the toss.
