Hobart Hurricanes beat Sydney Thunders by six wickets with 19 balls to go during the BBL game on Friday. The win also ensured that the Hurricanes are now at the top of the table with 11 points from seven games so far with a healthy run-rate. The huge win was possible due to the amazing batting by latest Royal Challengers Bengaluru recruit Tim David.
The Australian star scored 68 not out from just 38 balls with four hits to the fence and six massive hits beyond the fence. Tim David was batting on 39 when he got a full-toss from Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain. The batter didn’t let the ball go wasted as he smashed him for a huge six.

On the very next ball, Hasnain bowled a short ball that sat up nicely as Tim David pulled the ball for another six. With his, the 28-year-old reached his half-century to put his team on the course of a huge win. It is to be noted that Tim David was released by the Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL 2025 auctions. Royal Challengers Bengaluru wasted no time in picking the batter up for the coming season.
Hobart Hurricanes reach top of the table with thumping win
Needing 165 to win the game, Hobart Hurricanes began well. Openers Mitchell Owen and Matthew Wade added 28 runs for the opening wicket in just 1.4 overs. George Garton got the first wicket when he had the wicket of Matthew Wade for 13 runs. Wes Agar then had Owen caught by Sam Konstas for 13 off 6 balls with a four and a six.
Tom Andrews then came to the party when he castled Charlie Wakim for 16 runs. Nikhil Chaudhary played well to score 29 runs from 23 balls with three hits to the fence. The Indian-origin batter was out against the run of play to George Garton, caught by Sam Billings.
Speaking at the end of the game, Tim David said, “The ball comes on nicely under lights over here; I didn't feel good in the first 15 balls; I played a bit away from the way I usually play at the start, but nice to get it done for the team. I'm not sure if I was building an innings; I was trying to hit the ball on the ground, but it's more fun watching the ball roll onto the roof.”
