All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was awarded the best fielder medal in the Super 8 clash between India and Afghanistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup. One of the greatest fielders of all time, Jadeja was vigilant and spectacular as usual on the field. Notably, fielding efforts also played a part in India's comprehensive 47-run win in Barbados on Thursday, June 20.

The dressing room medal ceremony introduced by fielding coach T Dilip during the 2023 ODI World Cup received a massive response from the cricket fraternity. Besides encouraging the players to give their best on the field, it strengthens the unity of the players and provides a source of joy to the fans.

In a video released by the BCCI on its social media following India's first win at the Super 8 stage, Dilip was seen crediting the efforts of their players. He noted that the on-field results were a reflection of their intensive training when they first arrived in Barbados. Arshdeep Singh, Axar Patel and Rishabh Pant were the other contenders to win the medal.

In a surprising turn of events, Jadeja was presented with the medal by head coach Rahul Dravid. After receiving the honour from the legendary cricketer, Jadeja was elated and the southpaw did not hesitate to boost the team's spirits by lifting Dravid. “This medal is very important. I’m very happy to get this medal today,” Jadeja said after receiving the medal.

Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah shine in India’s resounding victory

The game against Afghanistan was India's first match away from the United States in the ongoing World Cup. Rohit Sharma, who assessed the situation well, elected to bat after winning the toss. However, the Men in Blue did not get the desired start as they lost their captain early on and Virat Kohli once again struggled to find runs. However, Suryakumar Yadav's brilliant half-century and Hardik Pandya's 24-ball 32 helped them post a competitive score of 181-8.

Afghanistan had to make sure they were off to a flying start, but Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel did not let them have one. With the loss of three wickets in the powerplay, the game was completely under India's control. Bumrah’s three-fer, conceding just seven runs in four overs, stood out in the second innings. Arshdeep Singh (3/36) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/32) also made significant contributions to their win.
