Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) bowlers kept Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) batters on a tight leash in the sixth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday. It was Ajinkya Rahane who won the toss and chose to bowl first. The wicket looked like it would help the spinners and it was the slower bowlers who put the hosts under pressure.

At the end of the 13 overs, the Royals were placed at 92 for the loss of five wickets as both sides took the second time-out. Riyan Parag, playing in front of his home fans in Guwahati, managed to score just 25 runs off 15 balls with three huge sixes. Varun Chakravarthy deceived the batter and saw Parag go for a huge hit.

Parag couldn’t time the ball well as the ball went high into the night sky. Veteran wicketkeeper Quinton De Kock didn’t make any mistake as he held onto the catch. It was a huge moment for KKR, who managed to break the 34-run stand for the second wicket between Jaiswal and Parag.

Moeen Ali makes memorable debut for KKR

Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal began well as the pair added 33 runs for the first wicket in just 3.5 overs. Samson who is playing as a specialist batter had scored a fifty in the last game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The 30-year-old scored 13 before charging down the wicket and losing his leg stump to Vaibhav Arora.

Moeen Ali made his IPL debut for KKR as Sunil Narine was rested for the game due to illness. The veteran former England star picked two wickets for 23 runs from his four overs. Moeen got the key wicket of Jaiswal caught by Harshit Rana for 29 runs. The off-spinner then beat Nitish Rana for pace to castle the batter for just eight runs.

Wanindu Hasaranga making his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals scored just four runs. Varun Chakravarthy got the wicket of the Sri Lankan all-rounder who was caught by Ajinkya Rahane in the fifth ball of the 10th over. Hasaranga came in for Afghanistan pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi who had failed to do well in the last game.
