Pakistan ended their T20I series against New Zealand on Wednesday with a loss in the final match of the series. The hosts, despite the unavailability of some of their big-name players, went on to win the series with a 4-1 margin. Haris Rauf made a huge gaffe on the field to give Kiwi batter Tim Seifert a second lease of life during the chase in the final game.

The incident happened in the fourth ball of the 10th over as Shadab Khan bowled to Seifert. The batter got a wide ball outside the off-stump that he mistimed. Haris Rauf, who was standing in the long-off region, saw the ball brush his fingers and go for a six. This was the second drop of the game, as earlier Usman Khan had put down an easy chance off the same bowler.

Michael Bracewell won the toss and chose to bowl first in the final game of the series. James Neesham was the best bowler for the Kiwis with 5/22 from his four overs. Skipper Salman Agha was the best batter for his side with 51 runs off just 39 balls, which included six boundaries and a six. Shadab Khan’s 28 off 20 balls was one of the three double-digit scores for the visiting side. Pakistan ended with 128 runs for the loss of nine wickets from their 20 overs.

Tim Seifert’s knock pulverizes Pakistan

Chasing 129 runs to win the game, New Zealand took just 10 overs to win the match. Finn Allen scored 27 off just 12 balls before he fell to left-arm wrist spinner Sufiyan Muqeem. The youngster struck again when he got the scalp of Mark Chapman for just three runs stumped by Mohammad Haris.

Tim Seifert was at his destructive best with the bat, scoring 97 not out. His knock came off just 38 balls with six boundaries and ten huge sixes. Seifert was given the man of the series for 249 runs with the bat. James Neesham was awarded the play of the game for his fifer.

Pakistan skipper Salman Agha praised the Kiwis at the end of the game and said, “They were outstanding. They outplayed us in the whole series. There were plenty of positives, though. The way Hasan batted and Haris batted in Auckland. The way Sufiyan bowled today”

Meanwhile, winning skipper Michael Bracewell said, “The whole bowling unit has been outstanding. Jacob has stood up and has led the pack. The way we have been able to rotate the players. NZ cricket is in great place. Few guys were missing. The consistency we showed was pleasing”
