Former India spin legend Anil Kumble created history against Pakistan during the second Test at Delhi in 1999. The right-arm leg spinner became the second bowler after Jim Laker to grab all ten wickets in an innings to help India win the match. Mohammad Azharuddin and his side won the game by 212 runs to level the series 1-1 after losing the first Test in Chennai.
Former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram was the last man out, caught by VVS Laxman, igniting huge celebrations in India. Kumble, who was stuck on nine wickets, was helped by his state mate Javagal Srinath to reach the terrific milestone. Srinath bowled wide deliveries to ensure that Pakistan’s last-wicket pair didn’t get out.

Kumble was the best bowler with figures of 4/75 while Harbhajan Singh picked three wickets. Anil Kumble’s carnage unfolds in Delhi
Chasing 420 to win, Pakistan openers Shahid Afridi and Saeed Anwar had begun well. The pair had added 101 runs in 24 overs to take the fight to the Indian bowlers just before lunch. Once play resumed after the break, Kumble aided by the turn and bounce ran riot. Afridi was caught behind for 41 to give India their first wicket. In the very next ball, Ijaz Ahmed was out LBW for a golden duck.
Inzamam was the next man out as he dragged the ball back onto his stumps to be dismissed for six runs. Mohammad Yousuf was out in the same over LBW for a two-ball duck as he gave Kumble his fourth wicket of the innings. Wicket-keeper Moin Khan was caught in the slips by Ganguly for runs while Anwar was out caught by Laxman for 69.
Saleem Malik and Wasim Akram added 58 runs for the seventh wicket to frustrate the Indian bowlers. Malik was bowled neck and crop by Kumble before the leggie dismissed Mushtaq Ahmed and Saqlain Mushtaq in a space of two balls to take his ninth wicket. Wasim Akram tried to play a defensive but the ball took the edge of his bat and flew to Laxman. Pakistan’s skipper was out for 37 to signal the best-ever bowling figures by an Indian in a Test innings as Kumble replicated Jim Laker’s feat.
