Akash Deep turned on the heat in the post-lunch session in Bengaluru. The Bengal pacer grabbed two wickets from two balls during the India A versus India B game during the Duleep Trophy 2024 tournament.

After dismissing Rishabh Pant for 7, Akash Deep bowled a dream ball to Nitish Kumar Reddy. The Sunrisers Hyderabad youngster saw the ball pitch on the perfect length and hit the top of the off stump. Reddy was stunned as he was out for a first-ball duck.

Akash Deep looking to replace Mohammed Shami for Bangladesh series

Indian pace bowler Mohammed Shami is yet to get fit and has just made his comeback. The veteran pacer hasn’t played for India since the finals of the 2023 ODI World Cup. The BCCI is set to pick the team for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh after the first round of Duleep Trophy matches.

In the absence of Mohammed Shami, the Indian selector may go for Akash Deep. The right-arm pacer has played a single game making his debut against England earlier this year. The 28-year-old picked 3/83 with the ball in the first innings and also scored 9 runs with the bat.

Jasprit Bumrah is also just back but will not be picked for Bangladesh. The first Test is set to be played in Chennai starting on 19th September. India A also has Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan playing as the two stars are looking to force their way into the test squad.

All three pacers picked two wickets to leave the India B side reeling at 94/7. Left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed got the wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal for 30 and R Sai Kishore for 1 run. Avesh Khan on the other hand got the wickets of Sarfaraz Khan for 9 and also got the wicket of Abhimanyu Eeswaran for 13.
