After a disappointing season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni returns to his hometown Ranchi. He was spotted outside the airport with his luggage and went straight to his car without clicking pictures. In yesterday's match, CSK lost to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by 27 runs; hence, they were out of the tournament.
RCB gave a target of 219 runs for CSK to chase in 20 overs. However, the Super Kings had to do 201 runs in order to qualify for the playoffs since their net run rate was better than RCB's. Before the game, CSK had 14 points and a 0.432 net run rate. However, after the game, RCB's net run rate came to 0.459 and CSK's 0.392.

With this, CSK was disqualified from the tournament. This was the third time in 15 years of playing IPL that CSK isn't a part of the playoffs. After yesterday's match, MS Dhoni didn't shake hands with the RCB players and went straight to the dressing room. His disappointment of not qualifying was pretty evident on his face, and now the fans are waiting for the news, which none of them are ready to hear, 'Dhoni's retirement'.
Poor performance by CSK in IPL 2024
After having a brilliant season in 2023, CSK was expected to continue the same performance in the IPL 2024 as well. However, after the change in captaincy, it seems like CSK got stuck in a transition period. Even though skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad's performance was mind-blowing in the season, he couldn't save his team from facing misery at the end of the IPL.
While the batters failed to score runs in most matches, the bowlers struggled to take wickets. In the match against LSG, the bowlers couldn't dismiss the openers until the 17th over. After that, in the match against RCB, bowlers removed Virat Kohli early, and Faf du Plessis got out by luck. After that, it took a long time for the bowlers to get another wicket, which made their struggle evident. Nevertheless, CSK is known for making comebacks and hence, they'll definitely make a great comeback next year.
