Chennai Super Kings endured a horrendous day in the field as they could only manage 103 runs on the board. Defending Indian Premier League (IPL) winner Kolkata Knight Riders bowlers maintained a vice like grip on the CSK batters as MS Dhoni’s return as the skipper turned into a nightmare.
Dhoni came out to bat when Deepak Hooda was out for a four ball duck with the score reading 72 for 7. The incident in question happened in the third ball of the 16th over with Narine bowling to Dhoni as the CSK skipper was hit on the pads and given out. Dhoni was quick to signal for the DRS as the fans in Chennai held their breath.
When the replays came on the big screen, the fans cheered when there was a spike when the ball was passing close to the bat. Third umpire though decided that there was no contact between the bat and ball. It was all over for Dhoni as the decision given by the on-field umpire stayed.
KKR’s spin twins hurt Chennai’s batters
The decision to bowl first after winning the toss proved to be right for KKR as their bowlers made short work of CSK batters. Varun Chakravarthy and Narine combined well to bowl eight overs for 35 runs and pick five wickets. It was Chakravarthy who set the wheels in motions with the wicket of Vijay Shankar for 29.
Narine then got into the act when he bowled a terrific off-break to uproot Rahul Tripathi’s stumps for 16 runs. Harshit Rana who had dismissed Rachin Ravindra got his second wicket when he dismissed Ashwin for one run. Ravindra Jadeja was out for a duck caught behind by Quinton de Kock off Narine while Deepak Hooda was out to Chakravarthy.
Shivam Dube then took the total past 100 to give something for the home fans to cheer about. The left-handed batter was not out on 31 off 29 balls with three hits to the fence and added 24 key runs for the last wicket with Anshul Kamboj.
