Hosts Chennai Super Kings (CSK) got off to a terrible start in their IPL 2025 game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Friday. Mohammed Shami struck on the very first ball of the game to dismiss CSK batter Shaik Rasheed for a golden duck. Shami, who didn’t play the last game against Mumbai Indians, bowled a perfect ball that made Rasheed poke at the ball.

The 20-year-old got a thick edge that flew to Abhishek Sharma, who was standing as the lone slip. Sharma didn’t make any mistake as he took a smart catch to give SRH the dream start they needed in this must-win encounter. Watching Shaik Rasheed fall for a first-ball duck in the game left the home fans in complete silence. MS Dhoni and his side need to win the game to keep their IPL 2025 playoff hopes alive.

Pat Cummins won the toss and chose to bowl first and said that the possibility of dew later in the game was a key reason behind the move. Ahead of the game, SRH were ninth in the table, while CSK were last in the points table. In their last match, Hyderabad had lost to Mumbai Indians at home by seven wickets.

Ayush Mhatre gives CSK early push with the bat

Young batter Ayush Mhatre, who made his debut in the last game, began well yet again. The 17-year-old played exquisite shots off Pat Cummins’ bowling in the second over of the game. Cummins, sharing the new ball with Shami, saw the young batter play an aggressive shot to hit his first boundary of the game. In the final ball of the same over, Mhatre hit Cummins past the mid-off fielder for his second four.

Former Mumbai Indians batter Dewald Brevis is also part of the CSK playing XI for the game on Friday. Brevis came in as a replacement player for seamer Gurjapneet Singh, who had injured himself. Brevis is likely to bat in the middle order and could also bowl a few overs.
