Scotland cricket team saw their T20 World Cup journey end on Saturday after their 5-wicket loss to Australia. It was heart-breaking for the Scots after they had given it their all with the bat and ball also in the field to win the match. Had they won the contest they would have made it to the Super-8 stages and knocked out England.

Left-arm spinner Mark Watt stole the show with the ball as he got the huge wicket of Glenn Maxwell. The Scotland bowler saw the ball pitch on the middle-stump line and turn past the bat of Maxwell. The Aussie star was left in disbelief he got squared up and the ball turned to hit the top of the off-stump.

Glenn Maxwell has been under tremendous pressure due to his poor run with the bat. The 35-year-old didn’t have a great IPL 2024 season with Royal Challengers Bengaluru and was benched for a few games.

Scotland’s journey ends in heart-breaking loss

As soon as Tim David hit Brad Wheal for a huge six, the writing was on the wall for Scotland. They had lost a match that was firmly in their grasp and were in complete control till the 10th over of the Australian innings.

Travis Head yet again was the main man for his side as he smashed 68 runs from 49 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes. Marcus Stoinis contributed with yet another match-winning knock of 59 runs from 29 balls with 9 fours and 2 sixes.

Towards the end of the innings, Tim David scored 24 not out from 14 balls with 3 fours and that match-winning six. Few fielding lapses and Tim David’s dropped chance in the 20th over ended the hopes for Scotland as the match slipped from their grasp.

Captain Richie Berrington speaking at the end of the game said “I thought we were in a good position. We were in a great position for the first 10 overs We had a really good start but it was a good wicket and we should have executed a bit better with the bat. They have a few good strikers in their team and they managed to pull it back at the back end. A fantastic knock from Travis Head and then Stoinis. We are disappointed but this is a great learning for us”
