New Zealand cricket team fresh off their historic series win in India are playing Sri Lanka in a two match T20I series. The home team won the first match on Saturday by 4 wickets. Mitchell Santner who had picked 13 wickets during the second Test in Pune bowled a dream to get rid of Kusal Mendis.

The incident in question happened in the first ball of the third over. Santner bowling round the wicket pitched the ball on the middle-stump line. The ball turned a long way as it beat Kusal Mendis to hit the top of the off-stump. Mendis was left in shock as the batter was out for two runs.

Charith Asalanka won the toss and chose to bowl first and went in with the same team that had won on Saturday. New Zealand made one change as seamer Lockie Ferguson came in for fellow pacer Jacob Duffy.

Sri Lanka pacer Nuwan Thushara struck in the first ball of the game when he castled Tim Robinson for a duck. The right-arm pacer then got the wicket of Mark Chapman for 2 caught by Kamindu Mendis.

Wanindu Hasaranga went through the Kiwi middle order as he dismissed Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, and Mitch Hay. The right-arm spinner also dismissed Will Young stumped by Kusal Mendis for 30.

Josh Clarkson’s 24 and Mitchell Santner with 19 ensured the Kiwis went past 100 runs before being bowled out for 108. Hasaranga was the best bowler with 4/17 from his 4 overs. Matheesha Pathirana then picked 3 wickets to help his side bowl out the Kiwis.

After the fall of Kusal Mendis, the home team lost Kusal Perera, Kamindu Mendis and Charith Asalanka in a hurry. At the time of writing, Sri Lanka were placed at 57/4 in the 11th over still needing 51 runs to win the game and also the series. After this the two teams will play three ODI games. Sri Lanka had earlier beaten New Zealand with 2-0 margin during the Test series just a few weeks ago.
