Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc was the star with the ball as he picked 6/48 in the first innings of the Adelaide Test. The left-arm seamer is the highest wicket-taker in the history of Pink Ball matches with a total of 72 scalps so far. A few Kolkata Knight Riders fans decided to poke fun at the Aussie star during the opening day of the game.

Just as Starc was fielding near the boundary, fans burst out into a chant “Starc loves IPL, IPL, Starcy loves IPL”. This was followed by chants of KKR before the fans went on to ask how much was he picked for during the Indian Premier League Auctions 2025 that was held in Jeddah. Australian seamer didn’t look impressed as he glared at the fans in anger.

Kolkata Knight Riders had purchased Starc for INR 24.75 Crores last season to make him the costliest player in the league. The 34-year-old played 14 games and picked 17 wickets as KKR won their third title. The Aussie star picked 2/14 in the finals to get the key wickets of Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi. Delhi Capitals purchased Starc for INR 11.75 Crores with the Aussie star having lost half his value.

India’s veteran duo fail to fire with the bat in Adelaide

Veteran batting duo Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma failed with the bat during the opening day of the Adelaide Test. Virat Kohli was out for 7 caught by Steve Smith in the slips while Rohit Sharma scored three runs before he was out LBW to Scott Boland. Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar pointed out the issues faced by Virat Kohli.

Sanjay Manjrekar taking to his X handle wrote, “One important reason why Virat's average has slipped to 48 now is the unfortunate weakness outside off. But more crucially, his adamance to not try another way to tackle it”. Kohli who had scored a century in the last match began well and even hit a terrific boundary. Starc though got the ball to bounce which caught the edge of Kohli's bat and went flying to Steve Smith.

Meanwhile, former Australian star Adam Gilchrist pointed out a huge flaw in Rohit Sharma’s game. During his commentary stint, Gilchrist noted, “Hazlewood was Australia’s best bowler in Perth but having Boland playing here as his replacement is not bad. Boland is tall, but you wonder if the ball would have hit the stump if it had been Hazlewood. Boland has the ability to skid the ball through. It did so here. Rohit Sharma’s front foot was stuck and that’s a good night.”
