Karnataka defeated Vidarbha by 36 runs in the final to become the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 champions. The game was played at the Kotambi stadium in Vadodara on Saturday, January 18. Karnataka completely dominated the entire match and didn’t give a chance to come back for Vidarbha throughout the entire game.

Batting first, Mayank Agarawal’s Karnataka posted a massive total of 348 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted 50 overs. Star number four batter Ravichandran Smaran played an amazing century knock, scoring 101 runs off 92 balls, with seven fours and three sixes.

Besides Smaran, wicketkeeper-batter Krishna Shrijith also played a crucial knock of 78 runs off 74 balls, with nine fours and a six followed by Abhinav Manohar’s fiery 79 runs off just 42 balls, with 10 fours and four sixes. On the back of these knocks, Karnataka managed to score 348 runs, losing 6 wickets in the allotted 50 overs.

Darshan Nalkande and Nachiket Bhute scalped 2 wickets each, alongside a wicket each bagged by Yash Thakur and Yash Kadam.  

While chasing the target, opener Dhruv Shorey scored a vital century, with 110 runs off 111 balls, with eight fours and two sixes. Besides him, it was only Harsh Dubey who scored 63 runs off just 30 balls, with five fours and five sixes. But these knocks weren’t enough for Vidarbha to chase down the target and they were bundled out at the score of 312 runs in 48.2 overs.

Eventually, Karnataka won the match by 36 runs to clinch the title of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25. Vasuki Koushik, Prasidh Krishna, and Abhilash Shetty scalped three wickets each for Karnataka, alongside a wicket picked by Hardik Raj.

Ravichandran Smaran won the ‘Player of the Match award for his amazing 101-run knock, and Vidarbha skipper Karun Nair won the ‘Player of the Series award for, scoring 779  runs in the tournament with a sensational batting average.
