Kane Williamson's stellar stint in IPL history

The New Zealand star batter has played ten IPL editions from 2015 to 2024. Surprisingly, the stylish right-hander is currently in India despite being unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction, which took place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The 2021 WTC-winning skipper has had a stellar time with Sunrisers Hyderabad, leading the side in IPL 2018.

Williamson had an epic season in the IPL 2018, where he guided his side to the finals. However, the side suffered defeat against the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings. Despite losing, Williamson melted fans' hearts with magnificent performances, winning the orange cap. The Kiwi dasher has racked up 735 runs in the 17 matches with an average of 52.50, including eight half-centuries, which allowed the Hyderabad-based franchise to storm into the final showdown.

Kane Williamson hailed Shubman Gill's leadership for the Gujarat Titans!

After not being retained by SRH in IPL 2022, Kane Williamson made an appearance for Gujarat Titans in the next two editions. Notably, the Tauranga-born star has recently spoken about GT skipper Shubman Gill after working under his leadership in IPL 2023 and IPL 2024. The batting legend was ruled out in IPL 2022 after sustaining an injury in the first game. Later, Hardik Pandya led the side to win the title in their inaugural edition.

"He's a very well-put-together human. He has a great cricketing brain and cares about his teammates. He's very sure on how he wants to go about his business, which I think is a really strong leadership quality and quite infectious, so there's no surprise really that he's touted for leadership for some of the Indian sides in the near future. I've never really seen him too overawed. He's on this path of getting better and better," Kane Williamson said on ESPNCricinfo.
