Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) pacer Mayank Yadav bowled yet another forgettable spell on his return from a long injury layoff. The 22-year-old was hit by Punjab Kings (PBKS) wicketkeeper batter Josh Inglis for three successive sixes in the second over of the game. Yadav began the over well with just one run from the first ball as Prabhsimran Singh gave the strike to his senior partner.

Inglis got a short ball from Yadav and the batter didn’t need a second invitation to deposit it into the stands for a six. On the very next ball, the bowler dropped the ball short once more and the batter pulled him for a second six off the over. Yadav, who had bowled 156.7 KPH last season, seemed rusty, as he wasn’t even able to go past 144 KPH in his first spell.

The third six came courtesy of Yadav’s short ball for a third successive time as Inglis pulled the ball deep over Avesh Khan’s head for a six. Rishabh Pant won the toss and chose to bowl in a key encounter where LSG have to win the game. Lucknow had 10 points before the start of the game.

Kolkata’s win over Rajasthan meant that Rahane and his side leapfrogged LSG by one point. The visitors gave Akash Singh their first start of the season instead of Ravi Bishnoi. By the end of six overs, PBKS had managed to reach 66 runs for the loss of two wickets with Shreyas Iyer and Prabhsimran Singh batting.

Left-arm seamer Akash Singh made a terrific start to the game as he gave away just six runs from the opening. The 22-year-old began with two dot balls before the next two deliveries produced a single each. Priyansh Arya tried to break the shackles with a big hit but managed to give Mayank Yadav an easy catch. In his second over, Akash gave away just two runs, while Yadav was smashed for 20 off his opening over.

It was Prabhsimran Singh’s turn to go after Yadav as the 24-year-old hit two sixes and a four to score 16 runs from Yadav’s second over. The right-arm was hit for 36 runs from his first two overs of the game. Inglis welcomed Akash with his fourth six of the innings to help PBKS reach 50 in the fifth over. The bowler had the last laugh when Inglis tried to hit yet another six only to be caught by David Miller near the boundary. The batter was out after scoring 30 runs off just 14 balls and, more importantly, gave PBKS a great start after losing an early wicket.
