The veteran England wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow announced his IPL debut for MI in a swashbuckling style, with a blistering knock against Gujarat Titans in the ongoing Eliminator of IPL 2025. Bairstow replaced Ryan Rickelton to open the innings for MI, alongside keeping the wickets. The explosive batter came to open the innings with former skipper Rohit Sharma.
The 35-year-old smashed 47 runs off just 22 balls, with four fours and three sixes, before his knock ended up in a juggled catch involving GT’s Sai Sudharsan and Gerald Coetzee. Bairstow was dismissed on the second ball of the eighth over, when he tried to play a reverse sweep off Sai Kishore.
The ball went towards Sai Sudharsan at the backward point, where the ball deflected after touching Sudharsan’s hands, and it was safely caught by Gerald Coetzee.
