Team India struck early on the second day of Gabba Test match to get early Sunday cheers. Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah dismissed opening batter Usman Khawaja early on second day of the game. The 31-year-old began the day bowling round the wicket and troubled Australia’s veteran batter.
In the very first ball of the 17th over , Bumrah delivered the perfect ball to get the edge of Khawaja’s bat. Rishabh Pant took a simple catch to give India their first wicket of the game. After struggling with lengths on the opening day of the game, Indian bowlers came back stronger on Sunday.
Only 13.2 overs were possible on the opening day of the game as rain abandoned the day. Play started early on day two with 98 overs set to be bowled in the day. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bowl first on Saturday.
Bumrah struck again in his next over when he had Nathan McSweeney caught in the slips by Virat Kohli. The right-handed batter had been put under pressure with India’s nagging lines and lengths during the opening day of the game. McSweeney was caught in the slips by Kohli for just 9 runs off 39 balls.
Usman Khawaja’s bad run of form continues
Australian opener Usman Khawaja hasn’t had the best run of form with the bat in recent times. The 36-year-old batter has failed to put runs on the board during the opening two games of the series. Former Australian pacer Brendon Julian had called for Khawaja to retire from cricket amidst his bad run of form.
Meanwhile, former India star Aakash Chopra slammed India’s bowlers after the showing on day one of the game. Speaking on his YouTube channel, the 47-year-old said, “This is the reality. This is hitting the nail on the head. It is the truth that there is an overreliance on Jasprit Bumrah. One reason for that is - Bumrah is so good that suddenly everyone starts looking pale."
Aakash Chopra also said, “Secondly, Mohammed Siraj has picked up, yes, but you need at least a three-pronged fast bowling attack that is relentless. Our third prong hasn't looked that impressive. Siraj has done well I feel. He has picked up nine wickets at an average of 19 in this series also. So he gives you his 100 percent.”
