The latest loss came against Lucknow Super Giants to keep MI firmly in the 9th place in the table. Mumbai Indians pacer Jasprit Bumrah was walking back to the dressing when he spotted a young fan. Jasprit Bumrah proceeded to take off his cap and give it to the youngster and also obliged him with his autograph to make the young boy happy.

The next game for Mumbai Indians is at home against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday. MI need to win all their games and hope the other results go their way in a bid to make it to the top four place in the league table. A loss on Friday will all but end the season for Mumbai Indians and deem yet another season of failure for the five time IPL winners.

Mumbai Indians endure yet another miserable campaign

Even before the start of the IPL 2024 season there was lots of controversy around Mumbai Indians. The decision to give Hardik Pandya the captaincy after removing Rohit Sharma from the helm of affairs didn’t sit down well with the fans.

While the batting has been decent in patches, the bowling unit has suffered with the spin department in particular taking a beating. Piyush Chawla hasn’t been able to replicate his 2023 form while Shreyas Gopal was dropped after a handful of matches.

Jasprit Bumrah and Gerald Coetzee are the only two bowlers who have kept Mumbai Indians in the hunt during this season. Hardik Pandya has also courted criticism for taking numerous wrong calls on the field and his captaincy has been called out by the critics and fans.

In the batting department, Rohit Sharma and Tilak Varma have stood out once more while the rest have been silent bystanders at best. Even the blazing blade of Suryakumar Yadav has been quiet this year as the 33-year-old has been undergoing a string of underwhelming performances in the last few matches.

Mumbai Indians and its players will want to end the season on a high considering that the T20I World Cup is just around the corner. If the former IPL champions manage to win a few games the confidence of the players and the morale of the fans could get a major boost.
