Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah gave India the second wicket of the Melbourne Test match on Thursday. Indian pacer got the wicket of Usman Khawaja for the fifth time in the series to finally break the frustrating stand between Khawaja and Labuschagne. The second wicket stand was worth 65 runs which was raised in 149 balls.
The incident occurred in the first ball of the 45th over with Bumrah coming for a new spell. Usman Khawaja was batting well on 57 when he got an innocuous-looking short ball from India’s lead pacer that he tried to pull. The Aussie batter could only find the toe of the bat as the ball carried to KL Rahul for a simple catch.
Once the wicket fell Bumrah was left in surprise as he hid his face in the palm of his hands and began to laugh. It was the end of a steady innings from Khawaja who had been facing questions about his form with the bat after dismal first 3 games.
Marnus Labuschagne and Mohammed Siraj enthral fans with terrific contest
Australia came out to bat after lunch, with their score reading 112/1 from 25 overs. Rohit Sharma was quick to press his pacers back into attack in a bid to take some quick wickets. Akash Deep kept attacking the stumps to keep the Aussie batters under pressure with Mohammed Siraj giving him good support.
Marnus Labuschagne became the topic of hilarious memes on social after getting struck thrice in the groin region. Each of the times the Aussie batter went down in pain as Siraj and the rest of India fielders were in splits. Even some of the commentators saw the funny side as an exciting battle took place between the batter and the bowler.
Amidst all this, Khawaja was able to reach his fifty and got a huge ovation from the capacity crowd at the MCG. Just when it seemed like the veteran batter was set for a huge ton, he gave his wicket away to Bumrah. None of the Indian bowlers seemed to be able to trouble the hosts as the pitch seemed to be aiding the batters after losing out on the early dampness.
