Indian team captain Rohit Sharma spoke at the press conference ahead of the Melbourne Test. At his most distinctive, Rohit enthusiastically answered reporters' queries about his form and the team's preparations for the highly anticipated Boxing Day Test.
When asked if he had discussed the widely acknowledged weakness with deliveries outside the off-stump with "modern-day great" Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma responded, "You only said he is a modern-day great. Modern-day great will figure out their way or the path (to overcome issues)."
Although Kohli had scored a century in the second innings of the first Test in Perth, he has been repeatedly caught in Australia's off-side trap, with scores of 5, 100 not out, 7, 11, and 3 in the three Tests thus far.
Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood have taken advantage of the former Indian captain's weakness by enticing him to play at deliveries outside the off-stump. Kohli had demonstrated more discipline in this area during last year's tour of South Africa, but he seems more vulnerable during the current series in Australia.
While Rohit Sharma has shown full support to his former captain Virat Kohli. In recent times, Virat has struggled due to his temptation to poke outside off-stump deliveries, which led to getting the wicket of the star Indian batter.
Rohit Sharma is fully fit to play in the Boxing Day
Rohit Sharma dismissed worries about his form by saying that he has been practicing the fundamentals at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. He confirmed that he is fully fit to play in the Boxing Day Test after recovering from a scare of a knee injury, but he was silent about his batting position in the starting XI. Rohit has been batting at No. 6 since coming to Australia, giving up the opening spot to make room for KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
In Perth, the new opening duo performed well without Rohit. Rohit hasn't, however, contributed much thus far from the No. 6 spot. India will want to exert pressure on Australia in the renowned Boxing Day Test in Melbourne now that the series is tied at one.
