Debutant batter Sam Konstas took the attack to Indian bowlers with his blistering batting. The 19-year-old played plethora of unorthodox shots against Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj to unsettle the visitors. The crowd were left in awe as Konstas showed the world why he was selected to make his debut in Melbourne.
At the end of the 10th over, Virat Kohli and Sam Konstas got into a bit of an exchange. The incident happened after Konstas nearly got a top edge off Siraj’s bowling but the ball landed safe. Just as the batter was going to have a word with his partner, Kohli was making his way to the other end as well.

India’s former skipper then shoulder barged Konstas as the young batter turned around. Kohli seemed to be angry with the batter as he was seen making his opinions. Usman Khawaja diffused the situation as Mark Gough played the peace maker. Virat Kohli made a point to the batter the latter was infringing on his way across the park to stand in the slips.
India startled by Sam Konstas attack at the MCG
After a quiet first few overs of the game, Sam Konstas signalled his intentions with two attempted reverse scoops. Both those shots against Jasprit Bumrah failed to come off but the youngster wasn’t fazed as he played a conventional ramp shot for a four. In the same over, Konstas hit Bumrah for a six using the reverse scoop. Yet another boundary came up with the same shot as India’s pace ace began to leak runs.
The young batter got to his maiden fifty from just 51 balls when he scampered back for 2 quick runs. Even Mohammed Siraj tried to get under the skin of the batter after the Aussie missed a wild slash. The next ball Siraj was hit for a four and the young batter got stuck into the pacer with some verbal barbs.
This start from the Aussies wasn’t something India were banking on coming into the MCG Test. In the previous three games, both Siraj and Bumrah had kept a tight lid on the scoring and put the hosts under pressure. The massive crowd at the MCG though had their hearts filled with the amazing start to the game they got thanks to the young batting sensation.
