His first ever action came against Jasprit Bumrah as India’s pace ace troubled the youngster in his first over.
Massive roar went out after Konstas got off the mark with two runs just past the square leg region. In the same over, the 18-year-old left the crowd and entire Indian team stunned with an outrageous shot. Smiles everywhere as the 19-year-old Sam Konstas attempted to ramp Jasprit Bumrah very early in his debut 👀#AUSvINDpic.twitter.com/9I9urUnmuq
The attempted shot left even the commentators in complete shock. Bumrah on the other hand was seen perplexed with rest of the slip cordon at the shot attempted. Rishabh Pant has played this shot in Test match on many occasions, notably hitting James Anderson for a boundary.
Pat Cummins back Sam Konstas to do well
Australian skipper Pat Cummins during his address to the media backed young Sam Konstas to do well with the bat. The 18-year-old was confirmed to make his debut in place of Nathan McSweeney who had failed with the bat in the first 3 games. Konstas had scored a century for India during the warm up game for the PM XI.
Pat Cummins said “I think it is similar to Sammy (Konstas) this week. There is a level of naivety that you just want to go out and play like you do when you are a kid in the backyard. You just want to take the game on, have fun, and not overthink it."
Aussie skipper also added “That is the message to Sam. That is definitely how I felt as an 18-year-old. I was just really excited, and once the game started, you go into game mode and it's just like any other game,"
The young batter comes in with a huge reputation for scoring runs. Just before his debut, the right-handed batter played BBL 2024 game for Sydney Thunder and scored a blistering fifty. The youngster also made a massive statement of watching Bumrah’s bowling videos to prepare for the MCG Test match debut.
