14 wickets fell on the opening day of the India C vs India D game in Anantapur on Thursday in the Duleep Trophy game. Harshit Rana and Axar Patel picked two wickets each as India C ended the day on 91/4 still trailing by 73 runs with 6 wickets left. 

Harshit Rana brought out his controversial ‘Flying Kiss’ celebration after dismissing Ruturaj Gaikwad. The India C skipper was batting on 5 when he edged the ball to KS Bharat who was fielding in the slips. Harshit Rana immediately turned to the dugout and did the celebration. 

The aforementioned celebration first came to light during IPL 2024. The Delhi pacer gave Mayank Agarwal a flying kiss during the Kolkata Knight Riders vs Sunrisers Hyderabad game. The 22-year-old was banned for a game post the incident but came back to play a key role in his side winning the title. 

Engrossing first day of matches in Duleep Trophy 2024

India D batted first and were bowled out for 164 as Axar Patel scored 86. The next best was 13 runs as KS Bharat, Saransh Jain, and Arshdeep Singh were out on that score. Axar Patel waged a lone battle as he took the India C bowlers to the cleaners. 

At one stage India D were reeling with 8 wickets down for 76 runs. Axar Patel and Arshdeep Singh then added 84 runs for the 9th wicket in 15 overs before Singh was out to Vijaykumar Vyshak. At the close of play Abhishek Porel was batting on 32 off 55 balls with 7 fours while Baba Indrajith was batting on 15. 

In the other game in Bengaluru, India B made a stirring comeback thanks to a century from young Musheer Khan. Shubman Gill opted to bowl first after winning the toss and reduced India B to 94/7 at one stage. 

Just when it seemed that the game was over, Musheer Khan and Navdeep Saini added 108 runs for the 8th wicket. The pair were still batting when the stumps were called having played out 211 balls. 

Musheer Khan the younger brother of Sarfaraz was not out on 105 off 227 balls with 10 fours and 2 sixes. Navdeep Saini was not out on 29 off 74 balls with four boundaries and one six. 

Yashasvi Jaiswal played a few good shots before getting out for 30. Akash Deep then picked the wickets of Rishabh Pant and Nitish Reddy in successive balls and also ran out Washington Sundar to have a huge say in the game.
