The start to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 campaign has gone from bad to worse for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper Rishabh Pant. After scoring just 17 runs from the first three games of the season, the pressure was on Pant to deliver goods with the bat against Mumbai Indians. Pant, who is the costliest player in IPL history, scored just two runs before he was dismissed by Hardik Pandya.

The incident happened on the fourth ball of the 11th over when Pant got a leading edge off his bat. Corbin Bosch, who had come in as a substitute fielder, dove in front and took a neat catch. Hardik Pandya was thrilled to bits with the wicket as he let out a roar with Pant putting his head down and walking back to the hut.

Mitchell Marsh had given LSG a great start with the bat after the home team were put into bat by Hardik Pandya. The 33-year-old notched up his third IPL fifty in four games after being dismissed for a first-ball duck in the last game versus Punjab Kings. At the end of the first powerplay, LSG had reached 69 runs with Marsh doing bulk of the scoring.

Just when it seemed that Lucknow were running away with the game, Vignesh Puthur was introduced into the attack. The youngster struck in his first over by dismissing Marsh in the final ball of over his over. Puthur took a good low return catch to send back Marsh for 60 off 31 balls. His knock contained nine boundaries and two sumptuous shots for six.

Nicholas Pooran came out to bat with the same aggressive intent that he had shown in the first three games of the season. The left-handed batter hit a four and a six to race to 12 runs. Hardik Pandya using all his experience deceived Pooran with a shortish slower ball that the batter tried to pull. Deepak Chahar settled under the ball and took a neat catch to deal a huge blow to the hosts.

More questions will be asked of Pant’s form with the bat as the 27-year-old has been able to score just 19 runs so far. it hasn’t been a great start to life as LSG skipper for Pant as pressure is sure to mount on him. LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka was seen having a stern word with Pant at the end of the previous game which saw Lucknow lose tom PBKS.
