Match number 35 in the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to witness hosts Gujarat Titans (GT) take on Delhi Capitals (DC). It is a game between top ranked Delhi against third-placed Gujarat at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday afternoon. GT coach Ashish Nehra is known for his fun-loving nature and laid-back attitude. This was seen when Delhi Capitals uploaded a video where Nehra came up with another hilarious moment.
In the video uploaded by DC, Ashish Nehra was heard asking, “Yeh Abhishek Porel hai na?” When the reply came out in the affirmative, Nehra hilariously said, “Abhi, aaja bhai last ball.” This elicited massive laughter from others as Nehra is the coach of Titans’ side and Porel is a member of the Capital’ side. Former teammate Munaf Patel joined in the banter that showed the great bonhomie between the two camps.
Delhi Capitals skipper Axar Patel was seen laughing and pulling Nehra away in the same video. Former India player Heman Badani who is now the coach of DC had shared the dressing room with Nehra during his India days was heard saying, “He will run both nets.” To which Axar was heard saying, “Ek Kaam karo, dono net chala lo.”
Massive chance for Abhishek Porel to continue his blazing form
Abhishek Porel, 23-year-old, has been amongst the runs since the start of the IPL 2025 season. The left-handed batter scored 49 runs in the last game against Rajasthan Royals before losing his wicket to Wanindu Hasaranga. That knock played a key role in DC's win over RR in the super over that led his team to reach top of the table.
In the previous game against Mumbai, Porel had scored 33 off 25 balls and added 119 runs for the second wicket with Karun Nair. The pair had put DC in a commanding position while chasing 206 to win, but DC ultimately lost the match by 12 runs.
With Faf du Plessis’ fitness up in the air, and Jake Fraser-McGurk going through bad form, the onus will be on Porel to score runs. The track in Ahmedabad has favored the batters and the smaller boundaries could favor Porel’s attacking style. The 23-year-old has been touted as one of the players to watch out for. One more good season with Delhi Capitals this season could see Porel become part of conversation for a national call-up.
