This would be the first time that the young star batter would lead the team in the ODI matches. Rohit Sharma injured his hamstring, while he was fielding  during the match against Pakistan last Sunday, chasing a ball. Towards the end of the 26th over, Rohit Sharma was seen struggling with the injury.

The Vice Captain was given the responsibility of leading from the front for a brief period before Rohit Sharma returned, although he was not in a very good shape. Rohit also skipped batting during the team’s first training session win against Pakistan match, raising more concerns about his fitness.

Who will be Rohit Sharma's replacement?

It is already confirmed that India has already secured its place for the semi-finals in the Champions Trophy 2025 by winning against Bangladesh and Pakistan. Hence, the result of the last-group stage match against New Zealand will not significantly impact the Indian cricket team.

Now, it all boils down to the question of who is going to replace the injured captain and be the opener for the side. With Yashasvi Jaiswal not part of the Dubai squad, he is not a viable option. As per reports, team India can make a choice between Rishabh Pant and Washington Sundar.  KL Rahul can also be partnering with Shubman Gill as opening batters for the upcoming match against New Zealand. Considering the fact that New Zealand has multiple left-handers, it is likely for India to pick Sundar instead of Rishabh Pant. It is going to be an interesting encounter to watch for the cricket fans, as they hope for Rohit Sharma’s speedy recovery ahead of the semi-final game.
