As Pakistan struggled at home, New Zealand won the Tri-Series, which also involved South Africa, by a margin of five wickets. The Kiwis defeated the Men in Green just before the Champions Trophy, thanks to a potent bowling attack and middle-order anchoring after being asked to bowl first. In Karachi, New Zealand defeated Pakistan by 5 wickets in the tri-nation series final thanks to half-centuries from Daryl Mitchell and Tom Latham. In just 45.2 overs, New Zealand reached the goal of 243 to win.

The game was dominated by Tom Latham, who has been struggling lately, with a brilliant 56 off 64 balls. Daryl Mitchell (57) went all out to form an 87-run partnership with Latham following Conway's dismissal. Glenn Phillips replaced Mitchell as Latham's partner when Mitchell was removed by Abrar Ahmed in the 39th over. Despite Latham's absence at the end of the game, Phillips and Bracewell concluded the match as Pakistan suffered defeat at home.

Meanwhile, as New Zealand was only three runs away from the win, Glenn Phillips showed his commitment as he stretched his body to save himself from getting run out. He lept from well outside the crease with a full stretch to just make it over the line. Phillips helped New Zealand win the match with his 20 runs. New Zealand won the series without losing and will be full of confidence going into their Champions Trophy opener against Pakistan

Babar Azam reached his 6000 ODI runs mark

Earlier, Pakistan chose to bat first and backfired, as Michael Bracewell, Nathan Smith, and William O'Rourke destroyed the top order in 12 overs, leaving Pakistan reeling at 54-3. Babar Azam remained at the crease for a short while to reach his 6,000 ODI runs, but Zaman went too soon. But Saud Shakeel was dismissed after just eight runs after falling to Bracewell's clever delivery in the ninth over. However, O'Rourke and Bracewell dismissed both in quick succession. Taking the next two wickets, Tayyab Tahir (38 off 33) and Faheem Ashraf (22 off 21) took Pakistan's total above 240 runs.
