New Zealand bowlers struck back in style after India had raced to a quick start in the Champions Trophy finals. Mitchell Santner brought in Michael Bracewell to bowl the 20th over of the innings.

Bracewell, just like Kuldeep Yadav in the first innings, struck on the first ball of his spell. Virat Kohli, who had scored 84 in the last game against Australia, was batting on one run. The Kiwi bowler enticed a false shot from Kohli, who tried to look to flick the ball and was struck on his pads.

The umpire had no doubt as he put the finger up as Kohli had a shocked look on his face. India’s former skipper decided to take the review after consulting with Rohit Sharma. Players had to wait for a while to know the result; once the replays came on the big screen, it was seen that Kohli was out. Fans who had come out in huge droves to watch the game were left sad as the former Indian skipper headed to the hut for one run.

Michael Bracewell: A key player for New Zealand in CT2025 finals

Veteran all-rounder Michael Bracewell had done well with the bat when the Kiwis batted first after winning the toss. At one stage, it looked like New Zealand wouldn’t go past 220 runs on the board. Indian spinners had ensured that the opposition batters found runs hard to come by in the first innings.

Bracewell came out to bat after the fall of Glenn Phillips for 34 in the 38th over of the innings. The 34-year-old left-handed batter began slowly but once he got his eye in, Bracewell was quick to make the bowlers pay. The batter ended the innings on 53 off 40 balls with two huge sixes and three sweetly timed fours.

Mitchell Santner will hope that Bracewell can do the magic and keep picking wickets if the Kiwis have to win the title. Earlier Shubman Gill was dismissed by Santner for 31 as Glenn Phillips pouched yet another amazing catch. Gill scored his 31 runs off 50 balls and hit just one six in his knock.
