Defending champions Mumbai took on Haryana in the third quarter-finals of the Ranji Trophy 2024/25 season. CSK star Anshul Kamboj rocked Mumbai in the very first ball of the match. Kamboj pitched the ball up to Ayush Mhatre and breached his defense to uproot his middle stump.
It was a dream start for Haryana who had come into the knockout phase as the top ranked side from their group. Mumbai on the other hand made it to the quarter-finals after their huge innings win against Meghalaya to pip Baroda and qualify for the knockout stages.

The game was initially set to be played in Lahli but BCCI decided to change the venue with just a few days left for the game. Mumbai won the toss and chose to bat first with Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube being included in the playing XI.
Haryana seamers rattle Mumbai’s top order before lunch
Anshul Kamboj gave Haryana a great start with the wicket of Ayush Mhatre in the first ball of the match. Siddesh Lad came out to bat at number three and added 14 runs for the second wicket with Akash Anand. The pair with Anand in particular looked to play shots with Mumbai’s wicketkeeper getting two boundaries.
That stand was broken when Sumit Kumar dismissed Akash Anand bowled for 10 runs. In the very next ball of a new over, Kamboj destroyed Lad’s stumps to send back the veteran batter for just four runs. Suryakumar Yadav came out to bat with a positive mindset and hit two fours.
Just as it seemed that India’s T20I skipper was looking in good touch, Sumit Kumar ended his innings. Yadav was out for nine runs off five balls as he saw his middle stump being uprooted by the medium pacer. Shivam Dube joined skipper Ajinkya Rahane and added 40 runs for the fifth wicket in nine overs.
Dube hit four crisp boundaries and a huge six before he was caught in the slips of Yash Vardhan Dayal to give Ajit Chahal his first wicket. Rahane and Shams Mulani then began the rebuilding job for Mumbai just before lunch.
