Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi saw a massive turnout of fans for the Delhi vs Railways game. The reason behind this was the return of Virat Kohli to the Ranji Trophy after more than a dozen years. Fans had been waiting to get inside the ground hours before the game could begin.

One emotional fan ran onto the ground and bent down to touch Kohli’s feet. The fan in question had broken the security cordon to meet his idol. Security personnel finally caught up with the intruder before taking him out of the field. Earlier in the day, a few fans who had assembled to watch the game had broken into ‘RCB’ chants outside the ground.

Ayush Badoni won the toss and chose to bowl as each and every move from Kohli elicited a huge cheer. The 36-year-old has been sweating it out with his teammates to get into proper form for the upcoming ODI commitments for India.

Delhi bowlers wreck early damage against Railways

Put into bat first, the Railways lost their opening batter Anchit Yadav for seven runs when he was out LBW to Siddhant Sharma. The left-arm pacer struck for a second time when he had skipper Suraj Ahuja out for 14 caught by Shivam Sharma. Forgotten Indian pacer Navdeep Saini then castled Vivek Singh for a duck as the off-stump went flying.

Navdeep Saini spoke to PTI before the game and was upbeat about Kohli’s return. The right-arm seamer said, “A lot has changed. Because he is such a legend. So sharing the dressing room with him is a very proud moment for all the boys. So seeing him, everyone is like, How high is this intensity? Accordingly, our intensity is also high. This is a plus point for us."

The 32-year-old India pacer also added, “When we practice, it's always like a competition. I have been playing with Virat for a long time. I always have a lot of fun with him in practice. Ever since I started playing with him, there is always an opportunity to get out a good player or hit a good ball. So today was the same. I have to do my job.”
