The fairy-tale of the veteran India pacer Mohammed Shami with his best performances in the major ICC tournaments witnessed another episode in India’s campaign opener against Bangladesh in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Shami broke a few records with his sensational five-wicket haul against Bangladesh.

With the third wicket in his today’s five-wicket haul, the veteran pacer picked the 200th wicket in his illustrious ODI career. With this, he also registered his name as the bowler to take the fewest balls to scalp 200 ODI wickets, surpassing Mitchell Starc and Saqlain Mushtaq.

The moment also went viral on social media when Shami achieved the feat of his 200th ODI wicket, breaking the 154-run sixth wicket partnership between Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali.

The video started making rounds on social media as soon as it was shared by the official broadcasters on their official X handle (formerly Twitter).

Notably, Shami has taken only 5126 balls to complete his 200 ODI wickets, surpassing Mitchell Starc’s record of 5240 balls. In this list, the names also include Saqlain Mushtaq with 5451 balls, Brett Lee with 5640 balls, Trent Boult with 5783 balls, and former legendary Pakistan pacer Waqar Younis with 5883 balls.

Apart from being the quickest bowler to take 200 ODI wickets in terms of balls, Shami has also become the second-quickest bowler to achieve this landmark following Australia’s veteran pacer Mitchell Starc.

The 34-year-old has also become the highest wicket-taker for India in the ICC ODI tournaments, including both ODI World Cups and the Champions Trophy. He has now 60 wickets to his name in just 19 innings of the ICC ODI tournaments he has played. He surpassed former legendary India pacer Zaheer Khan who had 59 wickets in 32 innings.

The list further includes the former India pacer Javagal Srinath with 47 wickets in 36 innings and current star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja with 43 wickets in 32 innings.
