Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) star Andre Russell was celebrating his 37th birthday on Tuesday night. The veteran West Indian cricketer made it a night to remember when he smashed Delhi Capitals (DC) pacer Mitchell Starc for a huge six. The incident occurred in the 48th match of IPL 2025 with Starc bowling the final over of the innings.

By the end of the innings, KKR had scored a massive 204 runs on the board. Starc had ended his night with figures of three for 43 from his fours. The Aussie left-arm seamer dismissed Rovman Powell and Anukul Roy in his final over and missed the hat-trick when he missed the edge of Harshit Rana’s bat by the barest of margins. Abhishek Porel, though, hit the stumps on the full to run out Russell for 17 runs from nine balls.

Delhi Capitals’ bowlers fight back after tremendous start by KKR

Axar Patel won the toss and chose to bowl first and saw KKR race to 48 runs by the end of the third over. Starc got his first wicket of the day when he got the key wicket of Rahmanullah Gurbaz for 26 runs, with all of his runs coming in boundaries. Sunil Narine and Ajinkya Rahane added 37 runs for the second wicket in 22 balls before Narine was dismissed by Vipraj Nigam for 27.

Rahane was sent back to the hut by his opposite number for 27 runs, but Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Rinku Singh came to KKR’s rescue with the bat. The pair added 61 runs for the fifth wicket in 45 balls to keep KKR in the hunt for a huge score on the board. Raghuvanshi was out after scoring 44 off 32 balls while Rinku Singh scored 36 off 25 balls.

If it wasn’t for some amazing death bowling by the DC bowlers, KKR may well have scored over 220 runs on the board. Speaking at the mid-innings break, Raghuvanshi said, “It is just above par. It is a really good wicket to bat on, and we have to bowl really well. Our bowlers are really good and we back them. That's why we picked an extra spinner, hopefully they can extract something off the pitch”
