Speaking to BCCI at the end of the game, Patel said, “I was in a position where I saw him sprinting from behind and the way he stretched to take a catch. I saw the whole angle; it was a really good catch." That’s when Axar spotted the young batter and said, “Sharma kyu raha hai?”

Fielding coach T. Dilip also lauded Jaiswal’s effort and said, “I was on that side, and I saw the ball kept going. I was like, ‘Just catch it.' One thing is that his hands are good. So I was like, 'Just reach there; you will take the catch'.” Jaiswal scored 15 runs before he was caught behind by Phil Salt as India won the match by four wickets.

Rohit Sharma reveals reason behind Axar Patel’s batting promotion

Axar Patel was sent out to bat at number five on Thursday and the 31-year-old responded with a classy fifty. Patel was out after scoring 52 off 47 balls with six fours and a six, and also added 108 runs for the fourth wicket with Shubman Gill.

Speaking at the end of the game, Rohit Sharma said, “We want a lefty in the middle. We know there are a couple of (England) spinners who are going to bowl into the left-handers and we wanted a left-hander to be out there."

The Indian skipper also said, “Axar, over the years now we've seen how improved he is as a cricketer, especially with his bat and we got to see that again today. We were slightly under pressure at that point; we needed a partnership and Gill and Axar batted really well."

When asked about the game, Rohit said, “Nothing specific. Overall, as a team, I just want us to keep making sure that we keep doing the right things as often as possible. There is nothing specific that we want to try and achieve.”
