WATCH: Amit Mishra's bold remarks on Shubman Gill's captaincy during Zimbabwe series

In the Zimbabwe tour, star youngster Shubman Gill captained India for the first time. While the young guns won the series, 4-1, Gill's captaincy has been strongly criticized by most of the critics. Former India spinner Amit Mishra talked about Gill's captaincy in a podcast. As per Mishra, Gill has less knowledge about captaincy, and other players like Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad are better choices than him.

Amit Mishra said, "I've seen him (Shubman Gill) in the IPL, and he doesn't know how to do captaincy. He has no idea about captaincy. Why they made him captain is a question. Just because he's in the Indian team doesn't mean he should be made captain."

Even during the IPL 2024, Gill was handed over the captaincy of Gujarat Titans after Hardik Pandya left. He couldn't handle the pressure and lost his calm most of the time. The Zimbabwe series went on quite calmly since the players performed well. In the upcoming series, it will be interesting to see if the Board is sticking to Gill as the captain or exploring other options. 

I feel Ruturaj is a better option: Amit Mishra

Amit Mishra straightaway talked about preferring Ruturaj Gaikwad over Shubman Gill for captaincy since he's a lot calmer and has scored under challenging situations. Moreover, Gaikwad's captaincy in the IPL 2024 was quite impressive as well, and he's an all-format player who is skilled enough to bat at any position as per the team's demand. Hence, the Board should give Gaiwkad another chance. 

"Everyone has some liking. I am not a Shubman Gill hater, I also like him. But, I feel Ruturaj is a better option because he has scored runs in tougher situations, be it for Chennai Super Kings or during the Asian Games. He is someone who can deliver in T20Is, ODIs and Tests. The most important thing is, who brings calmness to the team? He doesn't play risky shots much. He should hire a good manager (for social media PR)," said Amit Mishra.
