Australian star Alex Carey pulled off the best catch of the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025 tournament. The incident happened in the fourth match of the tournament between Australia and England being played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Ben Dwarshuis was bowling the second over of the day to Phil Salt.

The English batter got a full ball on his legs that he tried to hit over the mid-on region. Alex Carey, who is playing as a pure batter in the game, jumped and took a one-handed catch. It was easily the best catch of the current tournament and England lost their first wicket of the day. Salt was out after scoring 10 runs, which included a six and a four that came in the first over of the game off Spencer Johnson.

England had scored 17 runs in the first two overs of the match to make a brisk start. Jamie Smith was sent into bat at number three and the youngster responded with three splendid boundaries. Smith became the second wicket to fall when he offered a simple catch to Carey and gave Dwarshuis his second wicket.

Steve Smith opts to bowl after winning the toss

Australia came into the Champions Trophy without key names like Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Marsh, and Mitchell Starc. Yet another miss was that of Marcus Stoinis, who had retired from the ODI format. The onus of captaincy was on Steve Smith, who had seen his side lose 2-0 to Sri Lanka recently.

Speaking at the toss, Smith said, “We're gonna have a bowl... Looks like a pretty good surface. There's a bit of dew when we were practicing, so we'll like to chase later on.” When asked why he wanted to chase, Smith said, “A little bit of swing up top; we'll try to utilise that as much as possible.”

Meanwhile, England skipper Jos Buttler said, “We probably would have batted; we were a bit 50-50 whether the dew comes in or not. Looks like a really good surface; look to try and make good first use of it. We are not trying to hide anything; we are very confident. We are really excited for the game and guys are in a really good place. Anytime you play Australia in an ICC event, you want to be part of it.”
