'Pakistan should win' Former India player makes bizarre claim Photograph: (X)
In just under 24 hours, the biggest match of the Champions Trophy is set to be played. India and Pakistan will face each other in the second game of the Group A match on Sunday in Dubai. Rohit Sharma’s side began the campaign with a win over Bangladesh. Pakistan, on the other hand, lost by sixty runs to New Zealand to endure a poor start.
Meanwhile, former India pacer Atul Wassan, during his chat with ANI, said that he wanted Pakistan to win the match against India. The former India player said, “I want Pakistan to win because it will be fun, tournament-wise. If you don't let Pakistan win, then what will you do? If Pakistan wins, then it becomes a contest. There should be an equal fight.”
If Pakistan loses the match, it will be an end to their campaign with one match left against Bangladesh. Mohammad Rizwan and his side came into the tournament as the defending champions. A win for India will mean that Rohit Sharma’s men can book their ticket into the final four stages with one game left versus New Zealand.
Atul Wassan slams Gautam Gambhir for team selection
During his chat with ANI, Wassan also praised India’s batting as he said, “You have a lot of good batters: Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli. You are batting until number eight in Axar Patel. Rohit has picked five spinners, and this team is best for Dubai. Have faith in what you have and move ahead."
The former India pacer slammed current coach Gautam Gambhir for his team selection in his chat with ANI. Wassan remarked, “You let Bangladesh score 228 runs after they were 35/5. Big teams will eat you up if you let them do that. Gautam Gambhir is picking his own team. I am just very upset that Rishabh Pant is not playing. I don’t know why. What is going on? Pant is a mercurial player whom the other team is scared of. Because they know that he can win matches on his own.”
“KL Rahul is a great player. But I don’t know what they see in him that he is playing Test matches, ODIs, and everything. Rishabh Pant is on the bench now. This is how you ruin players. If you put a good player in a situation where he keeps thinking whether he will play or not, that player will go from hero to zero,” Wassan ended by saying.
