Kamindu Mendis hit the winning runs to hand SRH a huge win to keep their playoff hopes alive. The cameras panned to Shruti Hassan, who was visibly distraught after the loss at home. The veteran actress was caught by the cameras trying to wipe her tears after the game. Most of the CSK fans were left in a complete state of shock at the dismal performance put in by their side.
Pat Cummins won the toss and asked CSK to bat first, and the home team were all out for 154 in the final over. Dewald Brevis led the scoring chart with 25-ball 42 while Ayush Mhatre scored 30. Harshal Patel was the best bowler for SRH with 4/28 from his four overs. In reply, Ishan Kishan scored 44 runs before Mendis and Nitish Reddy’s 49-run unbeaten sixth-wicket stand helped Hyderabad win the game.
SRH skipper Pat Cummins expresses delight after massive win
After the timely win on Friday, SRH skipper Pat Cummins expressed his delight and lauded his teammates. Speaking to the host broadcasters, Cummins said, “That was great. A few things came together tonight. The boys played well. Good to see a few smiles. It was pretty clinical”
Hyderabad’s captain also added, “Couple of guys at the top looked like taking the game on. In these conditions, Klaasen threw at the top, and Nitish finished it off. Our record here isn't great. Be more clinical going forward but pleased with the win”. Kamindu Mendis played a key role in taking the catch of Brevis as well as grabbing the key wicket of Ravindra Jadeja for 21.
Hyderabad next travels to Ahmedabad to take on Gujarat Titans in a key clash on May 2nd. Winning that game will not only breathe new life into SRH’s campaign but will also make the season interesting in the final stretch. It was also a special win for SRH since it was their first ever at the Chepauk stadium.
