WATCH: Abdul Samad pulls off amazing scoop shot off Arshdeep Singh to earn applause from Marco Jansen

Punjab Kings (PBKS) need 172 runs to win their second successive game in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Lucknow Super Giants batters fought back after losing three early wickets to post 171 runs on the board from their 20 overs. Ayush Badoni and Abdul Samad led the charge with the bat as the pair added 47 runs for the sixth wicket in 31 balls.

The best shot of the day was played by Abdul Samad in the fourth ball of the 18th over off Arshdeep Singh. The young batter used his presence of mind to scoop a wide delivery from the left-arm pacer straight over the wicketkeeper’s head. Singh saw the batter get ready for the scoop shot and bowled it wide outside the off-stump.  

Abdul Samad seemed to be ready for this as he changed at the last moment to play the perfect scoop shot. Even the commentators were left perplexed and questioned how the batter was able to play such a shot. The LSG fans and team management could be seen applauding the shot from the young batter to help his team get four key runs. 

Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni help LSG reach 171

Put into bat first, Lucknow lost the wicket of Mitchell Marsh for a golden duck to Arshdeep Singh. PBKS debutant pacer Lockie Ferguson then got the wicket of Aiden Markram for 28 while Glenn Maxwell dismissed Rishabh Pant for two runs. The pair of Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni then added 54 runs for the fourth wicket in 40 balls. 

That stand was broken when Pooran holed out to Maxwell to give Chahal the key wicket. Pooran was out after scoring 44 off 30 balls with five fours and two sixes. Ayush Badoni managed to score 41 off just 33 balls with one boundary and three huge sixes. Abdul Samad’s 12-ball 27 helped LSG score 171 for the loss of seven wickets. 

Speaking at the mid-innings break, PBKS pacer Arshdeep Singh said, “In the powerplay, it was stopping a bit and movement was also there, we could have hit the lengths more. Nowadays, the batters don’t trust their defence much; they swing hard, so I had two slips and a deep cover, just in case he swings and gets an edge, so I was attacking with two slips. I feel it’s a good total, we have to bat well to chase it down”
